Regarding tubs for the apartment dwellers, I have a couple of recommendations. First, drainage holes should be drilled into the bottom and lower part of the sides around the tub. It's easy to get too much water otherwise because things may not dry out well without drainage. That means putting the tubs on the lids or some other solid surface where the water can run out without ruining counters, floor, etc. Next, I suggest using shop lights with fluorescent bulbs down close to the soil for a few hours each day because there may not be adequate light otherwise. I know I'm commenting on a post that's a few days old as I write, so forgive me for any redundancy if you've already addressed these matters. http://www.destinysurvival.com http://www.gardeningandfoodstorage.com
The smallacre homestead is a semi-urban homestead promoting modern Victory Gardens, preparedness, libertarianism, self-reliant living, survivalism. Papa Ogre is an overgrown Eagle Scout. Mama ogre grew up around victory gardeners and homesteaders. We also have Mr. Man (our oldest), Little Man (our middle child), and Pretty Princess (our youngest), and a whole host of friends, as well as people we call 'gurus'.

Good point, John. The video didn't mention that, but its a practice I myself follow.
